WHAT IS GOOD GOVERNMENT? Our United States Constitution has it right:
"form a more perfect Union" >>> Good government helps diverse communities pull together in trade relations and social tolerance.
"establish Justice" >>> By consistently enforcing a simple system of understandable laws, good government is trustworthy to treat all citizens and residents fairly. Regulation and justice should NOT be privatized, but should be carefully supervised to restrain and rehabilitate offenders. Our system should encourage citizen representation, and minimize corruption.
"insure domestic Tranquility" >>> Good government supports and trusts citizens to influence each other with good social values.
|
Good government wants us to have what we need, so we can contribute effectively to the public good.
|
|
"provide for the common defence" >>> Good government is aware of history and current events, is alert for trouble, and prudently plans and provisions for possible responses. Good government reduces risk by an effective program of diplomacy.
"promote the general Welfare" >>> Good government preserves and improves our common public lands, libraries, and infrastructure. It supports economic and artistic skills embodied in our people. Good government maintains itself sufficiently funded and staffed to be competent in supporting a stable economy.
"secure the Blessings of Liberty" >>> Our laws should address only those issues needed for minimum acceptable personal and community safety, and should defend individual freedom and privacy. Thus, each law should be warranted by an important public interest which can justify its intrusion into the personal life of individuals.
"to ourselves and our Posterity" >>> Good government plans ahead for a healthy, prosperous future. We are facing new economic challenges - artificial intelligence (AI), advancing robotics and automation, a huge worldwide human population, and environmental change. We need to evolve a new economic and regulatory structure to support families and individuals, and promote investment in significant skills.
